New external 6x Blu-ray disc burner from Sony Optiarc

100 gigabytes on one disc

Ismaning/Germany, September 2011

Ismaning/Germany, September 2011 – Mobile home cinema, video archiving and a music library – the BDX-S600U from Sony Optiarc is setting new standards for film fans on the go, providing top quality images and sound. The BDXL-compatible external Blu-ray burner for all occasions stores up to 100 gigabytes of data on one disc and burns Blu-ray discs with up to 6x speed. This means that data-intensive content such as high resolution videos and large photo collections can be processed and saved quickly and easily, either at home or on the go. At the same time, the BDX-S600U guarantees the highest possible reproduction quality, including in 3D. The power supply while on the move uses USB cables, and the integrated cable duct is compact for travel. A sufficient energy supply is always provided – the BDX-S600U is the world’s first dual bus-powered external drive with USB certification: That means it can be operated reliably while on the go without an additional power supply – by merely using the laptop’s USB ports.

The BDX-S600U is ideal for flexible media users who like to use several devices at the same time, such as a PC, notebook and netbook. Frequent travellers will appreciate this compact and elegant all-in-one burner which weighs just 330 grams, offering access to the user’s film, photo and music collection as well as the ability to store treasured personal memories immediately and for long-term access. The drive also supports the new BDXL media with a capacity of up to 100 gigabytes. With the BDXL media, users can save twice as much data on a Blu-ray disc than with a 1- or 2-layer media, which hold 25 or 50 gigabytes. This makes it very easy to store extensive film collections on just a few discs. BDX-S600U also provides spectacular HD and 3D images with impressive sound quality. Another optimal feature for mobile use: the burner can be powered directly from a notebook or netbook using the integrated Y cable with dual USB ports. Organisation on the go is also easy because the USB cable can be securely stored within the integrated cable duct, thereby saving space.

The BDX-S600U writes to DVDs at up to 8x speed, to 1 and 2-layer BD-R media at up to 6x speed and to BD-R_XL discs at up to 4x speed. The drive reads DVD media at 8x speed, Blu-ray discs at 6x speed and CD-ROMs at 24x speed.

The new Sony Optiarc Blu-ray burner comes with the CyberLink Media Suite 8. There are no limits to your creativity as the comprehensive software package contains numerous programmes for reproducing and individually processing videos and films as well as for fast and easy data archiving. The CyberLink Media Suite is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

The BDX-S600U from Sony Optiarc is available from September. Sony Optiarc Europe offers a comprehensive 24-month warranty on the drive.
